Context
The Northern Network Center (TT.MLMB) – Mobifone is operating the Mobifiber broadband network on a large scale, including multiple telecom infrastructures, Datasite stations, GPON cable routes, and tens of thousands of subscribers.
During operation, the old management system revealed many limitations: distributed and unsynchronized infrastructure data; complex cable route and network logic management; and search and reporting tools that no longer meet modern management requirements.
To address these issues, TT.MLMB commissioned a comprehensive Mobifiber infrastructure management system, both inheriting and expanding existing capabilities to support long-term operations.
Requirements and Challenges
-
Data synchronization: Infrastructure, station, and cable route data are scattered across multiple sources (Datasite, Mobifiber system, Excel files, KML/KMZ), making reconciliation difficult.
-
Project and cable route management: A flexible add/edit/delete mechanism is required, along with detailed information storage to support operation and expansion.
-
Complex network logic: Network logic diagrams change frequently and require tools for intuitive declaration and editing.
-
Subscriber management and search: A fast lookup mechanism is needed by project, network element, keyword, and geographical location.
-
Network map: A comprehensive visualization of infrastructure, stations, cable routes, and network logic on maps is required, with support for measuring distances, finding nearest elements, and moving positions.
-
Statistics & reporting: Numerical data and charts are required for leadership to track subscriber growth and infrastructure rental rates.
-
System integration: The solution must be ready to integrate with the transmission management system currently being deployed under a Microservices architecture for centralized management.
-
Cross-platform deployment: The system must run smoothly on both Desktop and Mobile.
Solution
The system was designed and implemented with the following key functional groups:
- Infrastructure & station management: Synchronization and standardization mechanisms were built from Datasite, with connections to other data systems.
- Mobifiber project management: Manage the list of Mobifiber projects, categorized by unit, with user-based permissions.
- Cable route management per project: Manage cable routes within each project through a combined list and map interface, supporting route building as well as importing from Excel, KML, and KMZ files.
- Network element and logic management: Detailed management of all network elements on each cable route, with the ability to declare logic configurations connecting network element device ports with optical fibers.
- Subscriber management: Manage subscriber connection information at each splitter.
- Network map: Display network maps with infrastructure, stations, cable routes, network elements, and existing subscribers. Advanced support features include distance measurement, nearest element search, and map-to-reality comparison.
- Statistics and reporting: Generate consolidated reports and real-time visual charts for leadership to quickly analyze and make decisions.
- Cross-platform web application: Optimized user interface for both Desktop and Mobile.
- System architecture: Deployed under Microservices architecture with backend API Gateway, microservices, and frontend SPA ReactJs.
Achievements
- Accurate data synchronization: Data across systems is automatically synchronized and standardized via microservices.
- Intuitive management and map integration: Management workflows are integrated with list and map interfaces, improving efficiency and reducing errors.
- Fast search: Despite large data volumes, the system enables near-instant data queries.
- Real-time statistics and reporting: Reports and statistics are generated in real time, helping leadership make timely decisions.
- Cross-platform application: The software runs smoothly on both desktop browsers and mobile devices.
Success
The deployment of the Mobifiber management system at TT.MLMB Mobifone has thoroughly addressed infrastructure, cable route, subscriber, and network map management challenges. It has delivered a modern, scalable, and sustainable tool for Mobifone’s broadband operations.
Notably: The application was completed just as Typhoon Yagi struck Northern Vietnam, severely impacting the telecom network in general and the Mobifiber transmission network in particular. The software proved highly effective in monitoring, supervising, and troubleshooting cable route incidents across the affected areas.
